Jason Kelce, the former center for the Philadelphia Eagles, got emotional when he spoke about watching Sunday’s Super Bowl game between his former team and the Kansas City Chiefs — the team his brother, Travis Kelce, plays on.
“I knew it was going to be weird going into it,” Jason Kelce said on Wednesday’s episode of “New Heights,” the brothers’ podcast. “It progressively got weirder as the week went on. On one hand, you played your entire life with an organization and team. … And then on the other hand, you have your brother. And I’ve always supported you, I’ve always wanted you to win, and I wanted you to win this game.”
Jason Kelce said he tried to make it known he was rooting for her brother, a tight end for the Chiefs, but he felt like he “couldn’t be right.”
The Eagles won the Super Bowl on Sunday 40-22 to the Chiefs. The last time the two teams played each other was in the 2023 Super Bowl, when the Chiefs won 38-35, and both brothers played against each other. Jason Kelce, who played for the Eagles for 13 years, retired after the 2023 Super Bowl win.
Travis said he “always” knew he had Jason Kelce’s support.
Jason said there is a part of him that is “very happy and proud” that the Eagles won Sunday, but that it didn’t take “precedence over rooting” for his younger brother. He said the game was “very, very hard to watch.”
“As much as I love the Eagles, as much as I love the city of Philadelphia, there was not a fucking ounce of me that—” Jason Kelce said, pausing as he almost began to cry.
Then he continued: “I tried to correlate that I was rooting for both sides the whole time and that I was going to be happy and sad regardless.”
Jason Kelce alluded to the idea that some fans got upset about him rooting for both teams. Travis Kelce defended his brother, telling him he was giving those people “too much attention.”
Travis Kelce reflected on losing the game, saying, “it’s just our jobs.”
“My life is still beautiful,” he said. “I come home to an amazing household of family and friends that absolutely love me. That’s the beauty of going through a hard time like this.”
During Wednesday’s episode, Travis Kelce didn’t answer whether he would retire after this season, telling his brother that his career has caused “wear and tear” on his body.

“Right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. … I’m not making any crazy decisions, but right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding that there’s a lot goes into this thing,” Travis Kelce said.
